Prior cancer history linked to higher germline mutation rates in prostate cancer registry

Retrospective · Eur Urol Focus · 2026-11-06. Number 5 in the UrologyWatch Top 5 for November 6, 2026.

Among 42,645 prostate cancer patients in a germline testing registry, mutation prevalence rose from 10% with no prior cancer to 18% with two or more prior cancers, with the strongest associations seen for prior ureteral, bladder, and colon cancer.

Why it matters: Raises the question of whether a history of additional cancers, rather than family history alone, is associated with germline testing yield in prostate cancer patients.

Limitation: Retrospective registry of patients already referred for germline testing, introducing selection bias; causality cannot be inferred.
