Randomized trial finds no difference between HoLEP laser energy settings

RCT · J Endourol · 2026-11-03. Number 3 in the UrologyWatch Top 5 for November 3, 2026.

In a randomized trial of 319 men undergoing HoLEP, three laser settings (2J at 40, 50, or 60 Hz) showed similar operative times, IPSS change, and complication rates, though higher frequency settings used more total energy.

Why it matters: Supports flexibility in HoLEP laser settings without compromising operative efficiency or safety outcomes.

Limitation: Nearly a quarter of enrolled patients did not complete daily postoperative surveys, limiting granularity of early symptom data.
