Meta-analysis: 3D reconstruction linked to shorter operative time and fewer complications in partial nephrectomy
Meta-analysis · J Endourol · 2026-10-30. Number 5 in the UrologyWatch Top 5 for November 2, 2026.
A meta-analysis of 28 studies (3,196 patients) found 3D reconstruction before partial nephrectomy was associated with shorter warm ischemia and operative time, less blood loss, and fewer complications versus standard 2D imaging, with greater benefit in complex tumors, though prediction intervals included the null effect.
Why it matters: Suggests 3D reconstruction may aid surgical planning for complex renal masses, but wide prediction intervals mean the benefit may not be reproducible across all settings.
Limitation: Includes mostly nonrandomized studies with substantial heterogeneity; prediction intervals crossed the null for main outcomes.
