Single-center study links PSMA PET staging to longer survival in localized prostate cancer
Retrospective · J Nucl Med · 2026-10-30. Number 1 in the UrologyWatch Top 5 for October 31, 2026.
In a retrospective cohort of 6,999 men with localized prostate cancer, the 7.2% who underwent PSMA PET/CT for primary staging had longer time to biochemical recurrence and longer cancer-specific and overall survival after adjustment and propensity matching, with benefit concentrated in high-risk patients treated with radiotherapy.
Why it matters: Hypothesis generating: selection bias for who received PSMA PET at a single center may not be fully resolved by matching, so this should not be read as proof that PET itself improves survival.
Limitation: Single-center retrospective design with only 7.2% of the cohort receiving PSMA PET, raising strong selection bias concerns despite propensity adjustment.
