RCT: Prehabilitation before robotic prostatectomy improves early quality of life and continence

RCT · J Urol · 2026-10-29. Number 3 in the UrologyWatch Top 5 for October 29, 2026.

In a single-center RCT of 95 men undergoing robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy, a 4-week multimodal prehabilitation program (physical, pelvic floor, nutrition, psychological) improved global quality of life and continence at 1 month. The global quality-of-life benefit attenuated by 6 months, but continence and some other HRQoL and mental health improvements were maintained through 6 months.

Why it matters: Supports considering structured prehabilitation to improve early recovery and continence after robotic prostatectomy, with sustained continence benefit through 6 months.

Limitation: Single-center trial with modest sample size; benefits largely attenuated by 6 months for the primary quality-of-life endpoint.
