More intraoperative errors during nerve-sparing robotic prostatectomy linked to worse erectile function at one year
Prospective · BJU Int · 2026-10-23. Number 3 in the UrologyWatch Top 5 for October 23, 2026.
In a video-based analysis of 100 (subgroup 66 age-matched) bilateral nerve-sparing robotic prostatectomies by seven surgeons, cases resulting in erectile dysfunction at 12 months had 43% more total intraoperative errors and 67% more neurovascular bundle dissection errors than cases with good functional outcomes.
Why it matters: Suggests that objectively scored intraoperative performance during nerve-sparing dissection may be an important driver of postoperative potency outcomes.
Limitation: Small single-registry cohort from experienced surgeons; nonrandomized comparison of good versus poor outcome groups.
