Delay beyond 3 months to partial nephrectomy linked to higher cancer mortality in younger patients

Retrospective · Clin Genitourin Cancer · 2026-10-16. Number 3 in the UrologyWatch Top 5 for October 16, 2026.

SEER analysis of 8,947 patients with 2-4 cm RCC found time to partial nephrectomy over 3 months was associated with higher cancer-specific mortality in patients aged 67 or younger (HR 1.62), with the strongest effect in those 55 or younger.

Why it matters: Supports prioritizing timely surgical scheduling for partial nephrectomy, particularly in younger renal mass patients.

Limitation: Retrospective registry data with propensity matching; residual confounding by indication for delay is possible.
