FDG-PET/CT upstages 22% of high-risk UTUC cases beyond CT, changing treatment in 21%

Retrospective · BJU Int · 2026-10-15. Number 2 in the UrologyWatch Top 5 for October 15, 2026.

In a 203-patient cohort with suspected high-risk UTUC, adding FDG-PET/CT to CT led to clinically relevant stage migration in 22% of patients and altered treatment recommendations in 21%, with higher sensitivity for nodal metastases than CT (74% vs 33%).

Why it matters: FDG-PET/CT may refine staging and treatment selection in high-risk UTUC beyond conventional CT imaging.

Limitation: Retrospective single-center design with incomplete pathological confirmation in many cases.
