Multi-institution cohort reports outcomes of gemcitabine/docetaxel for BCG-unresponsive NMIBC

Prospective · Eur Urol Focus · 2026-10-14. Number 2 in the UrologyWatch Top 5 for October 14, 2026.

In 63 patients with BCG-unresponsive NMIBC treated with sequential gemcitabine/docetaxel, 12-month high-grade recurrence-free survival was 68.1% and 12.7% underwent radical cystectomy; BCG-refractory disease had higher recurrence risk than early-relapsing disease.

Why it matters: Adds prospective multi-institutional data supporting intravesical gemcitabine/docetaxel as a bladder-sparing option for BCG-unresponsive NMIBC.

Limitation: Small sample (n=63), short median follow-up of 14 months, non-randomized two-center cohort.
