Meta-analysis: TULSA ablation shows 70-80% one-year cancer control, good continence and potency preservation

Meta-analysis · BJU Int · 2026-10-14. Number 1 in the UrologyWatch Top 5 for October 14, 2026.

Pooled data from 12 studies (630 patients) show 12-month clinically significant cancer recurrence-free survival of 70% after primary and 80% after salvage transurethral ultrasound ablation (TULSA), with 90% pad-free continence, 81% erectile function preservation, and 6% grade 3 adverse events.

Why it matters: Provides the most comprehensive pooled functional and short-term oncologic data yet for TULSA as a focal/whole-gland ablative option.

Limitation: Substantial heterogeneity across studies in endpoint definitions and protocols; lack of long-term oncologic follow-up.
