Second-look TURBT linked to better high-grade recurrence-free survival in high-risk NMIBC
Retrospective · Urol Oncol · 2026-10-11. Number 1 in the UrologyWatch Top 5 for October 11, 2026.
In a 20-year single-institution series of 853 high-risk NMIBC patients receiving intravesical therapy, those who had second-look TURBT had improved 3-year high-grade recurrence-free survival (58% vs 40%), though progression-free survival did not differ.
Why it matters: Supports continued practice of second-look TURBT before intravesical therapy in high-risk NMIBC, particularly with incomplete resection or absent detrusor muscle.
Limitation: Retrospective, single-center, selection bias likely drove indications for second-look TURBT.
