Higher chemotherapy dose and testicular radiation linked to abnormal pubertal hormone patterns in childhood cancer survivors
Retrospective · JAMA Netw Open · 2026-10-10. Number 4 in the UrologyWatch Top 5 for October 11, 2026.
In a cohort of 221 male childhood cancer survivors, cumulative alkylating chemotherapy dose and testicular radiotherapy above 1 Gy were associated with dose-dependent elevations in pubertal FSH levels, a marker of impaired gonadal function.
Why it matters: Supports using cumulative treatment exposure data to guide early fertility counseling discussions in childhood cancer survivors reaching puberty.
