Post-chemo RPLND for seminoma: 84% 5-yr survival in viable seminoma cases, 27% relapsed overall

Retrospective · J Urol · 2026-10-08. Number 1 in the UrologyWatch Top 5 for October 8, 2026.

Retrospective multi-institutional study of 108 pure seminoma patients undergoing post-chemo RPLND for residual masses. Among those with viable seminoma on pathology, 5-year overall survival was 84%. Overall, 27% of patients relapsed and marker-negative progression independently predicted worse progression-free survival (p<0.001).

Why it matters: Retrospective data support EAU guidance on centralizing this technically demanding seminoma RPLND procedure, given its morbidity and relapse risk even with favorable survival in viable seminoma cases.
