Urine cell-free RNA test detects bladder cancer and predicts BCG response

Prospective · Nat Med · 2026-10-04. Number 2 in the UrologyWatch Top 5 for October 4, 2026.

A new urine cfRNA sequencing method (uRARE-seq) showed 95% sensitivity at 90% specificity for localized bladder cancer detection across 683 samples, outperformed urine tumor DNA analysis, and distinguished BCG responders from non-responders with an AUC of 0.93.

Why it matters: Could offer a noninvasive tool to detect recurrence and predict BCG response, pending prospective validation.
