Updated Cochrane review: PSA screening modestly cuts prostate cancer deaths, overall mortality benefit uncertain
Meta-analysis · BJU Int · 2026-10-02. Number 2 in the UrologyWatch Top 5 for October 2, 2026.
An update of the Cochrane review pooling six randomized trials (789,086 participants) found PSA-based screening likely reduces prostate cancer-specific mortality (moderate-certainty evidence) but any effect on overall mortality remains uncertain, with low-certainty evidence of a small or null effect.
Why it matters: Provides the most current synthesis of screening trial evidence to inform shared decision-making conversations about PSA testing.
