Freedom from biochemical recurrence at 5 years predicts low long-term metastasis risk
Retrospective · Eur Urol Oncol · 2026-10-02. Number 3 in the UrologyWatch Top 5 for October 2, 2026.
Pooled analysis of 3,120 men from 11 randomized trials found that men without biochemical recurrence at 5 years after high-dose radiotherapy had low 8-year metastasis and 10-year prostate cancer death risk, especially with intermediate-risk disease treated without long-term ADT.
Why it matters: Supports using 5-year BCR-free status as a meaningful reassurance milestone in post-radiotherapy surveillance discussions.
