Meta-analysis: ureteroscopic biopsy forceps yield ~85% diagnostic rate in UTUC, no device superior

Pooling 19 studies and over 1,700 biopsies, flexible ureteroscopy forceps achieved 84.6% diagnostic yield and 78.8% grade concordance in upper tract urothelial carcinoma, with over half of apparently non-muscle-invasive tumors upstaged at nephroureterectomy, and no forceps design outperforming others.
Why it matters: Reinforces that ureteroscopic biopsy alone should not be relied upon to exclude muscle-invasive UTUC when planning kidney-sparing therapy.
