Frailty does not modify robotic vs open cystectomy outcomes in older adults
Retrospective · Urology · 2026-09-27. Number 2 in the UrologyWatch Top 5 for September 28, 2026.
In a SEER-Medicare emulated trial of 1,750 patients aged 66-89 with bladder cancer, robotic-assisted radical cystectomy showed no significant difference from open surgery in perioperative morbidity or oncologic outcomes, regardless of baseline frailty.
Why it matters: Suggests frailty status alone should not drive the choice between robotic and open cystectomy approaches.
